Djembe 101

I'm always up for practicing my portraits, and Tyrell was kind enough to be my guinea pig. I wanted to do some photos that represented his personality. I suggested that he bring along his bongo. "It's a djembe," was the response I got. Apparently a bongo and a djembe are very different. After a brief educational session on various African drums, we headed out to the University for some shots.

Thanks Tyrell! We will definitely have to do that again sometime!

great shots! the last one is my fave for sure :) although, I was hoping for some shirtless poses...could have put on a real good show for the peeps on campus :)

Oh that Deirdre ... beating me to the coveted "1st comment" - you know this is war!

Haha, again amazing stuff! Really like the 1st shot. Was that with your 50 1.8 ? And the one barefoot by the stream is awesome. The bare feet are small details but it totally adds! And the flared djembe shot was amazing - definitely a favorite! Again, you are genuis! Maybe you shouldn't do this full time ... my customers might start going to Edmonton for your shots ;-)

Just a word - some of the pics are looking a bit yellow (particularly the stream one is noticable), which I know was something you were concerned about before. Did you look into a monitor calibration device? Haha, you could always send your monitor down to me and I'll do it for you ;-) I see that the Data Color Spyder2Express is only $79. Just a thought.

But again, love your stuff - simply genius!

My favorite with Tyrell is the second shot with the stream (although the rest are still awsome). Love the one with the djemb-with the light in the back- Looks amazing. I agree with Deidre about shirtless pictures.

Haha. Funny you should mention shirtless photos. We actually attempted some, but at the very same time a large wedding group came by to our location and started staring at us. Tyrell's shirt went right back on.

Justin: thanks for the heads-up on the Spyder2Express. I'll look into it!

do you think the yellow is from your reflector? I noticed when we shot Cameron that with the gold side, my shots looked yellow...just a thought

Nope, it's totally my computer.
I was using the silver reflector for Tyrell. Although it was sunset lighting which is always a little yellow.
